Trips to the Hospital

Hi! All,
I know it's been a while since my last post... I apologize for not blogging regularly and thanks for all the emails of concern I have been receving.

Well here's the story....Being cold and flu season here in India.... I came down with cold and fever for few days, Vai caught the bug from me... he took it hard he was sick for the next 10 days and then Kamal couldnt resist the bug.Mean time dad had another episode of angina (he had a triple by-pass almost 9 yrs ago) and was rushed to emergency. An angiogram report showed that one of his artery had a 95% blockage and a stent was put.I spent most of my time in the hopital when dad was there.Mom took care of vaibhav at home. I am glad to say that dad is doing great now.His doctor advised him to take it easy for a month and stay home.

Before all this happened.. I have been helping my good friend KP organize a surprise party for her husband at a farm house on their 10th anniversary...it was a great party... we danced the night of. heres the link for some pics from the party.

Birthday

I had a great birthday this year...Thank you so much for all the wishes and lot's of beautiful flowers sent my way.thank u....thank u...thank u

For my birthday I treated myself to a spa treatment ...got a facial which included a whole body message and hot oil hair message.. was very relaxing...it took almost 3hrs for the whole process....I almost fell asleep. They also had a cold and hot stone facial sounded interesting...on my list of things to try.

Kamal invited all my friends for lunch on my birthday ...we went out to one of the happening restaurants of the city called the WATERFRONT ( serves Indian and Indianised chinese and Thai food )the location was just perfect...on the banks of Tank bund (name of the lake )in the heart of the city.I had a mojito...I give the drink 6/10...but the food was excellent. We had a great time catching up with friends over food and drinks.

The one thing I regret about us living in India is Kamal's odd work hours...he works from 5 pm to 3.00 am.He goes to bed early in the morning and wakes up at around 9.00 or 10 am ....and the first thing he does is checking emails on his crack berry. Our yoga class starts at 11.00 am and ends at 12.30 pm. Kamal has his lunch at 1.00pm and spends some time playing with Vaibhav and retires into the bedroom catching up on his sleep.Poor thing he hardly has time for anything.... we can't go out during week days.
The other thing that bothers me is I personally need 8hrs of sleep ...hm mm I guess I can do with 7hrs and added to that I can't stay up too late...so I really feel sorry for my dear husband working hard to make our lives comfortable....love you honey:)

With inspiration from reading my friend Maureen's Blog (www.madaboutnew.blogspot.com) I've too decided to explore my city of Hyderabad...its changed a lot in the past few years and has lots of new places to explore. Will keep you updated with all the new things.Take care.... Love & peace

Luxuries of living in India

Some of the luxuries of living in India.... is being able to afford a cook, a driver, a maid to take care of the household and maid to help me with Vaibhav.

Believe me or not inspite of having all this help..I hardly have time to do things for myself ... My son claims most of it...he's gotten extremely clingy... it's gotten so worse that he will be waiting for me outside the bathroom knocking for me to get out....I hope this is just a phase he is going through....( hats off to all the single mothers out there) Also unlike in the U.S one has to constantly train and monitor all the employees to get the job done to your taste.I should say I have been extremely fortunate to find really good help ...they are good at their job and are quick learners.

Holding the best to the last... the ultimate luxury for Kamal & I is to have a yoga teacher come to our home and teach us Yoga five days a week. It's been almost 10 days since we started taking lessons...we love our teacher(Shiva Kumar), He has been practising yoga for the past 14 years....He is a postgraduate with a law degree...who chose yoga over law.

Kamal and I are really loving it.

Driving lessons

1) Don't know how to drive a stick shift
2) Have to drive on the left side of the road
3) Traffic can come from anywhere and there's too much of it
4) Almost nobody follows the traffic rules
5) Two wheelers,four wheeler's, pedestrian's,some times animal's use the same road

For the above mentioned reasons, Kamal and I have started taking driving lessons. It's a nightmare driving here in Hyderabad...it's almost like playing a car racing video game...without high speeds.Kamal's ready to get his driving license..but I need a little more practice... will venture out to get our license in the next couple of week's.

It was our third wedding anniversary on Monday June 16.....so I ventured out to buy a card for my dear Husband.I had a hard time finding the right card as there was limited choice..any how!!!!!!, I picked out a card ...pulled out 100 Rupees thinking that it would be more than enough ( $1 = Rupees 42) to pay, for the card and a chocolate I picked at the check out counter.I was a little shocked when the cashier asked me for Rs.120.....it then struck me that its been almost 9yrs that I shopped for a card in India and prices have gone up since then. I remember paying Rs.20 for a really nice card.I think my mind is still stuck at the time point when I left India for U.S.We had a similar experience when we went out to watch Indiana Jones...we payed Rs.200/ticket...earlier I remember paying Rs.70 for the best seats. ( I think I am outdated here in India Hhmmmmmm ....!!!!!) Will need some more time to get used to the newer India.

Blogger Notice

Well...here's the story....The day after my first posting...with great excitement I logged on to post some pictures...to my disappointment I found that my blog was locked. It was identified as a potentital spam blog by automatic spam detection.
I was unable to publish posts until review of my site by the blogger team and confirm it is not a spam blog.

Finally !!!!!!!!...here are some pictures of the street side fruit stalls with different varieties of mangoes and other fruits.Mango is the national fruit of India with more than 100 varieties in a range of colors, sizes and shapes and has been in cultivation for 4000 yrs.An average size mango has about 40 percent of daily required fiber and is high in antioxidents, vitamin A, C and D and is known as the king of fruit.I think my favorite fruit deserves at least that much of praise:)

Back to India

Welcome to my first post EVER!!

Thanks to all my friend's who have been patiently waiting to hear from me.

I am having a writer's block!! Have lot's of stuff to write about but don't know where to start.

To start ...Our flight to India was pretty smooth except for the carry on baggage we had to haul while changing planes. We decided to carry all our pictures ( too precious to ship or check in ) with us in a carry-on bag which weighed more than 40 lbs..then we had two other carry on bags, one diaper bag, one camera bag, my purse , two laptops and for some reason we decided not to take a stroller for Vaibhav...that added an extra 24 lbs for us to carry. This was vaibhav's second trans-continental flight..he out did his previous flight..he slept through most of it. we both ( babli ) could catch up on our much needed sleep as we spent the previous two night's packing and cleaning the apartment.

We landed on time at the new international airport in Hyderabad , the new airport is pretty neat. Of Course!!!!! I had to shop at the duty free store ..the prices were pretty competitive.I was impressed with the range of hard liquor ,perfume's and Cologne's they had.

As soon as we got home ..my dear husband had some coffee and went off to set up his computer's in the office room...if I am not mistaken I think he logged on to his work within four hour's of landing.

It took about a week for Vai to come out of jet lag. Month of May is peak of summer here in Hyderabad... it was about 107.6 F the day we landed and is still around the same...it's really really hot.

But the best thing about Indian Summers are the wonderful varieties of Mangoes that are available...trust me, the mangoes here are just the best ...mmmm...mm..mm!!!!! and the beautiful and fragrant Jasmines. Jasmine's are known to cool your body during the hot summer months...women here adorn them in their hair.. I will soon post some pictures.

My in-laws left for the U.S to help Kamal's sister and brother-in-law with their daughter Uma.she goes to day care and has been frequently falling sick. I am sure she is having a blast with them now.Now that my in-law's left for the U.S. My parent's took there place and are living with us and are helping us with Vaibhav. Vaibahv's having a blast here..he gets way too much attention from all the people around him. That.'s for today

Before I sign off CONGRATULATION'S to my good friend SRAVANTHI for Winning the Resident of the Year Award.

A heartfelt Thanks to the Kauhane's and the Lynn's for throwing a wonderful send-of-party and thanks to all our friends back in the U.S for being such great friends..we love you all and miss you very dearly.

Take care,
Archana
